RHEINMETALL and SAFE of Romania
RHEINMETALL is playing hard in Romania. It wants to win both the Romanian tank program with its "KF51 Panther" product for 216 tanks worth 6.5 billion euros and the infantry fighting vehicle program for 298 IFVs worth 2.5-3 billion euros.
It seems to be in poll-position for both contracts but it has formidable opponents that should not be underestimated.
• In the tank program there are also: KNDS with Leopard 2A8 (Germany + France) but also Hyundai Rotem with K2 Black Panther (South Korea)
• and in the IFV program they have announced their presence: Hanwha with Reedback (South Korea), GDELS with ASCOD 2 (consortium: USA, Spain, Austria and UK), Bae Systems Sweden with CV90 and AMPV (Sweden, UK license) and OTOKAR with Tulpar (Turkey).
It remains to be seen if director Papeger (CEO RHEINMETALL) who has already declared that he has won The contract for IFVs with LYNX, which was denied by Romania, will materialize in a few days, when we will find out all the winners of the military contacts of Romania and all the states related to the EU SAFE program.
